TextDraw Editor's Review

TextDraw is the main application of this software package, which also includes a program called Imagetrix. With this software you are able to generate and edit ASCII characters that resemble an input picture. I guess one could use this program to generate a welcome message for a console session (ex: for Linux BASH). The applications in this package even support generating colored text images.

Imagetrix is the second program, that's installed along with TextDraw. It allows you to open, resize, or adjust the color levels of images. This is the application that generates random characters. You can select to use only specific chars for the generated text. These characters are selected so that the new text-image looks very much like the original. TextDraw, on the other hand, allows you to edit text-images. It has a user interface which looks like Microsoft Paint, with the difference that it only draws ASCII chars.

When using TextDraw, you can select the character you want to add just by pressing it on the keyboard. The color of the characters you add is selected by clicking the small color legend at the bottom.

Pluses:

Drawbacks / flaws: TextDraw is unstable. I tried to select the flood-fill tool and use it to fill a section of the text-image with a character. Unfortunately, the program closed itself. I tried this more than once, but I always got the same result.

In conclusion: TextDraw has some nice features, which may come in handy if you need to draw an image composed of ASCII characters.
